Cowichan River Bible Camp

Hi! My name's Ally, and as you can tell from the fact that I joined this group, I live on Vancouver Island and I'm a Christian. I want to tell you about an awesome Bible camp - Cowichan River Bible Camp. It's on Cowichan River near Duncan. I've been going there for years and it is excellent. There is a band there called Friday's Cry. It is like many other camps in that there are camps for little kids, older kids, teenagers, and families, but it is unlike other camps in that it is extremely cheap and you get closer to God than anywhere else. (I must admit that that last statement is slightly biased, because I've actually never been to any other camps.) I got saved and baptized there.

Sorry if I sound like an advertisement, I'm really not. I just want to let people know about this because it can really change lives. I'd also like to know about other things that are happening on the island!

"The Glory of God"

Friday June 24th 7:00pm
Saturday June 25th 7:00pm
Sunday June 26th 10:00am (church service) and 7:00pm

If you want to come check it out or want directions or anything, please reply here. I'm not sure yet what this guy is all about but I'm going to try to go Friday night and see what all the buzz is about. While I am skeptical, I have heard that as he preaches, gold manifests from his body. It sounds amazing and if it's of God then Amen, but if not, we as believers should be aware of what's going on out there. Has anyone here ever heard of anything like this?

Esperanza
This past weekend I went to Esperanza (meaning "hope" in spanish). From Tahsis it's about 7 miles by boat and is inaccessible by any other means except float plane. It's a place with many purposes, the main one being healing through a relationship with Jesus Christ. There are lots of different programs including family sessions designed to minister to families who are facing various crises and sorrows. Most are from up and down the coast and a lot of them are from the Nuu-cha-nulth nations, but some people come from other places too. They also have outreach programs into nearby communities and summer camps for children, youth and for families. I went with nine other people from my church on a work crew to help the staff there get ready for the summer and do some maintenance. We got to demolish part of a house, move the rest of it, do some painting, and did a lot of laundry! Even though the work was hard I can't even begin to explain the peace of God that is in that place. If you want to know more about it or are interested in volunteering, they have a website and have some volunteer positions available through the "Getting Involved" section of that page. http://www.esperanza.ca/ I can't wait to go back with the work crew in October.

This past Sunday my church had a group of youth called the Master's Commission visiting from Comox and they were awesome! They did a bunch of skits, shared their testimonies, and showed us some pretty awesome stuff. One guy ran and broke through four boards that were all taped together with duct tape and another guy blew up a hot water bottle and kept blowing air into it until it was massive and finally burst. It can be done! The whole church was up on their feet cheering them on and encouraging them the whole time. It was really neat to see these youth get the whole church get so excited. They also preached, which was awesome since they're all about 17-25ish and many of the them were fairly new christians. It was so great that they were there that day because a woman who has been studying with our homegroup and did the Alpha course with us came to church with us for the first time and brought her kids, it was great. If you ever get a chance to see the master's commission you should definitely check them out. God bless!
